Human Presence Suspended Inside Time

A collection of photographs and haiku exploring those fleeting moments when we are completely present, yet somehow apart from the world around us.

Quiet spaces, solitary figures, busy streets and somewhere within the routines of daily life. A child standing at the edge of the sea. A stranger caught in thought. Someone waiting, watching, smoking, simply being.

Sometimes consciously, sometimes without knowing it, we pause. For a moment, life seems suspended. The world continues around us, but we are somewhere else.

The photographs and haiku poems will explore those moments — the brief spaces between one thing and the next, when a person seems to exist outside of time, before the day catches up.

12 Monks

A collection of portraits and stories exploring the lives of people who exist largely outside the attention of the world.

We live in a culture fascinated by the famous. Their lives are photographed, documented and retold endlessly. Their triumphs, failures, loves and losses become part of our collective story.

But around us are countless other lives, just as complicated, just as full of joy, loss, humour, hope and regret. People whose names we may never know. People whose stories are rarely asked for.

12 Monks looks toward some of those lives.

Twelve people living unhoused in Venice, Los Angeles. Twelve individual stories, each shaped by a lifetime of experiences, choices, accidents and circumstances.

There is no particular significance in being famous, and no insignificance in being unknown. Every life contains a story worth hearing.

Sometimes the stories we encounter by chance are the ones that stay with us.

FORTHCOMING

Consumption

A collection of photographs and installations exploring our relationship with the things we consume — and the things that consume us.

Food, technology, money, beauty, alcohol, cigarettes, belief. The things we reach for, the things we depend on, and the things we have learned to want.

Consumption is part of almost every aspect of modern life. Sometimes it satisfies us. Sometimes it comforts us. Sometimes we barely notice we are doing it.

But where does desire end and dependence begin? And how much of what we consume is really a choice?

This developing body of work looks at those questions through a series of photographs and other works that will eventually come together as a book and exhibition.

Consumption is currently in development.
